One-word summary: Emotional.
Drama queens and empaths, martyrs and seductresses, people with Cups cards are strongly based in emotions. Whatever they feel, they feel intensely, and they're prone to the depths of depression and the heights of euphoria in equal measure.
Unmatched in both compassion and cruelty, the emotions of those who fall into the suit of Cups are deep, complicated things. Nothing is ever simple, or black-and-white... There are a thousand shades of gray, and every other color imaginable in their worldviews. For others, being a hopeless romantic and a devoted sadist might be mutually exclusive -- for those who are aligned with Cups, both are part of the same emotional palette.
They can have a distinctly spiritual bent -- while other suits may insist that seeing is believing, Cups instinctively understand that some things have to be believed in order to be seen. As such, they tend to be very open-minded -- they're less concerned with objective measurements than with emotional satisfaction.
Some Cups-aligned people are excellent counselors and therapists, with their heightened emotional sensitivity... Being aware of the pain of others, they're instinctively drawn to help. Others go to the opposite extreme, determined to make the rest of the world understand their pain by whatever means necessary. And still others swing back and forth, tossed about on a sea of emotion that they can't seem to navigate.
The common factor with Cups is that one way or another, they've been marked by strong emotions. Intense love, crushing sadness... Whatever it is, either or both, or something else entirely, it's become a central part of that person's identity. Divorce them from their emotions, and what's left doesn't even begin to resemble a whole person. Swords can deny their emotions, and Pentacles can put them aside while they deal with more important matters, but to someone who draws Cups, neither option is possible. Their emotions are who they are, simple (and yet, complicated) as that.
